Why Do You Need A Periodontist?
More than half of Americans over the age of 30 have gum disease known as periodontitis. Symptoms include loose teeth, inflamed, receding or bleeding gums, and/or chronically bad breath. Recent studies have found that if left untreated, the disease can lead to tooth loss, and other conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, Alzheimers disease, cancers, and low birth weight in a newborn. Periodontics is one of the nine dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association (ADA). Periodontists are the only healthcare providers who are specialty trained to treat the above mentioned conditions.
The American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) is the 8,400 member periodontal organization that board certifies periodontists. It also promotes research in the field, delivering continuing education to practitioners and raising public awareness of periodontal disease and its overall health implications.
Bryan Siegelman, D.D.S. is a Diplomate with the AAP. This means he is board certified. He is currently the only board certified periodontist in South Central PA. His practice offers comprehensive periodontal care including: treatment of gum disease (periodontitis), the placement of dental implants, tissue grafting to treat gum recession, and cosmetic periodontal surgery.
The office is located in the Brockie Medical Center, 924-G Colonial Avenue, York, PA.
This practice is solely owned by Dr. Siegelman – not a hospital or corporate entity. Therefore, Dr. Siegelman is in complete control of making sure the practice remains true to this mission:
“The Periodontal & Implant Center of York will adhere to delivering the ultimate standard of quality care to its patients in an environment characterized by professionalism, integrity, and mutual respect. Every member of our staff shall constantly strive to meet and exceed patient expectations by means of technical skill, communication, and compassion to create results that provide optimum dental health and function for our patients.”
Leadership & Scholarship
Bryan M. Siegelman, DDS was elected in 2015 to serve on the American Academy of Periodontology’s National Board of Trustees.
Periodontists, to receive the distinction of this specialty, receive three additional years of post graduate training in addition to their four years of dental school. Furthermore, those periodontists who go on to become Diplomates of the AAP have done additional training to the post graduate level and have to pass rigorous written, oral and practicum examinations by the AAP’s board of examiners to achieve this board certification. In order to retain the board certification, the periodontist must fulfill ongoing continuation education requirements with the AAP.
The AAP’s purpose is to advance the oral and general health of the public and promote excellence in the practice of periodontics. Visit their website for more information: www.perio.org
